The New York Liberty got their first win in the WNBA finals series and initially prevented the Las Vegas Aces from defending their title – with their first win in a finals game since 1999. Back then, New York lost the series against Houston by 1 :2, since then the Liberty have been in the WNBA Finals two more times, but without winning a game.

Now New York can still hope for the first championship in franchise history. After the two defeats at the start of the finals, the team with Berlin’s Nyara Sabally in the squad won 87:73 at home on Sunday. Sabally only came on again shortly before the end and only played for just over a minute when the game was already decided. Nevertheless, she still has a chance at the championship in her first season in the WNBA.

The most successful player for New York was Jonquel Jones with 27 points (10/15 from the field, including 4/7 three-pointers), regular season MVP Breanna Stewart contributed a double-double to the success (20 points, twelve rebounds).

Kelsey Plum had 29 points for Las Vegas. Game four in the final series is on Thursday night (2:00 a.m. CEST).
